Cascadia - From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Supporters of the Evergreen Revolution, hope to one day achieve the independence of Cascadia through peaceful means versus the use of violent revolution, much the same way as was done in the former Czecho-Slovakia's Velvet Revolution in 1989.

CASCADIA CONFEDERACY -- The movement for an autonomous Cascadia Confederacy springs from the desire for full sovereignty and self determination for all people and peoples in our region (Indian, Metis, and non-Indigenous) to be able to organize ourselves into communities and other social groupings as we see fit, and to live as we choose without interference. We hope to form a regional support base and link up in a confederated fashion with the many indigenous peoples of the region in order to help reestablish full cultural and political autonomy and sovereignty - attributes that are repressed under the current nation-state arrangement of Canada and the United States.

"The Kingdom of Cascadia" is a sort of thought experiment I've been carrying on since the late 1980s, kind of a laboratory in which to try out various ideas for how a government ought to be structured (and whether one ought to exist at all). It's also an excuse for designing a lot of flags.

"Consider, instead, the way North America really works. It is Nine Nations. Each with its capital and distinctive web of power and influence.... These nations look different, feel different, and sound different from each other, and few of their boundaries match the political lines drawn on current maps."

Columbiana magazine is devoted to sharing ideas of how to live in place, in the land drained by the Great River of the West, the Columbia River and its tributaries.

Columbia -- State of Dreams -- Columbia is an idea, a dream and a long talked about border realignment of Washington and Oregon. The name Columbia is a reference point and a call to action. Idaho and the Cascades border Columbia from Canada to California. Overall, Columbia is a vast beautiful state waiting to happen.

Notes from the Road: The Pacific Northwest
"Cascadia" is the name given to the Pacific Northwest - western Oregon, Washington and British Columbia, by a growing, but quite small number of Americans and Canadians who believe...the Pacific Northwest ought to be its own country.

Ecotopia - A Provocative Description of the Pacific Northwest
Ecotopia from the title of Ernest Callenbach's popular 1975 novel about an ecological utopia.  The novel is emblematic of the values of this region which all revolve around "quality-of-life" and the willingness of people to explore new ideas and "follow their love of nature to its political conclusions, in support for environmental policies at the ballot box".  "This is the first place in North America in which even the middle class has moved on the idea that a person may have to lower his monetarily described standard of living in order to raise his overall quality of life." "This is the first place in North America in which even the middle class has moved on the idea that a person may have to lower his monetarily described standard of living in order to raise his overall quality of life."

Ecotopia - Who Belongs in the Pacific Northwest?
Attitudes against Californians were also regional, and definitions of what might be included as a part of the Pacific Northwest change over time. Ernest Callenbach, in Ecotopia excluded Idaho and added Northern California to his new break-away Nation. (Ernest Callenbach, Ecotopia. Berkeley, Banyan Tree Books, 1975)

State of Jefferson Alpaca Association
The mythical State of Jefferson lies a mountainous area that spans the border between Northern California and Southern Oregon. The original borders of Oregon and California were arbitrarily set by east coast bureaucrats and do not reflect the unique characteristics, geography, economy or citizens of this area. Stretching from the northern end of California’s central valley past the northern terminus of the Siskyou Mountains, and from the Pacific Ocean to east of the Cascade Mountains, this area is distinctive for its natural resources, rural atmosphere and independent population.
